Analyst Frrok Çupi went back in time years ago, recounting the moments when Sali Berisha took over the leadership of the Democratic Party.
According to him, it is not that the Democratic Party painted the portrait of its leader, but it was Sali Berisha himself who painted the portrait of the party.
He also showed the votes that were taken, while recounting Sali Berisha's outbursts after losing the first round to Aleksandër Meksi.
"He was a hothead in the DP, a newcomer. The DP was founded on December 11, he handed over his party card to the Labor Party on January 25 of the following year. In other words, a very natural thing happened.
It was not the DP that drew the president, that made the bust, the president made the portrait of the party. I was present. Meksi won 9 votes, Gramozi two votes and Saliu two votes. Yes, of course. Saliu wanted to burn the offices that night. It was in my office, in the office of the editor-in-chief of RD that it happened”, Çupi said on ABCnews.
Çupi further claimed how the next vote was organized and how Sali Berisha kicked the office floor, in the newspaper "Rilindja Demokratike".
"It was in the office of the editor-in-chief of RD, we even held a meeting, we took benches from the street because we didn't have any chairs. There were 13 of us and the voting was secret, that's the only thing. There were three candidates; Aleksandër Meksi, Gramoz Pashko and Sali Berisha and as I told you, Meksi won 9 votes, the others were divided by two.
At that time, Sali Berisha started to roar, the office was boarded up, he was kicking and screaming, and we were surrounded by state security. It was almost morning and it was getting dark, Leka said: doctor, this is how we do it.
You are Meksi with 9 votes and I am Saliu and take these my votes. It was a big night. Then we decided to make it 14, to gather them from the districts, so that many people would be late to the Palace of Culture at the Library.
And two missionaries stood at the door and ordered whoever came: vote for Saliu because you've got us in trouble. The only one who screamed was Emin Barçi, if you remember, a journalist for RD, what's going on like this.
"Even Abdi Baleta and Rustem Gjata have climbed to the podium and said that we have our own Communist Party, but you are more communist than my communists and they have cursed us and torn us to pieces, and that is how he was elected," said Çupi.
