Earthquake 'wakes up' Albania - Strong tremors between Lushnja and Elbasan
Albania woke up this morning, March 30, to an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter of the earthquake was between Lushnja and Elbasan, about 10 kilometers from Lushnja and 28 kilometers from Elbasan.
The tremors were felt strongly and lasted for several seconds. Fortunately, there are no reports of injuries or material damage.
1.7 million euros for Skanderbeg Square - Piro Sinjar's tender raises suspicions of fabricated payments
A tender announced by the General Directorate of Roads and Public Lighting in the Municipality of Tirana, signed by Director Piro Sinjari, has raised serious questions about the real need for this contract and the services that are expected to be paid for with public money.
In the Public Procurement Bulletin dated March 24, 2026, this directorate announced the tender for the maintenance and management of “Skënderbej” Square, with a limit fund of 1.7 million euros with VAT.
According to the announcement, the scope of the services includes cleaning the exterior of the buildings, maintenance and repair of the square, as well as care for the trees.
This is where the first suspicion begins. There are no buildings in “Skënderbej” Square under the administration of the Municipality of Tirana that would justify such a service item. The Palace of Culture and the National Museum are administered by the Ministry of Culture and the investments or interventions in them are not related to the Municipality of Tirana.
The second suspicion is related to the square itself. According to the data presented in the material, the maintenance of Skanderbeg Square remains a contractual obligation of the company that built it, as part of the works guarantee for a 12-year period from the inauguration in June 2017 to 2029. If this contractual obligation exists and is in force, then the Municipality must clearly explain why it is procuring 1.7 million euros of additional services.
