UPDATE/Informative Edition, 18:00

We invite you to follow the Informative Edition with the main developments up to this hour of the day, where among other things we highlight:

Territorial politics and reform in Albania

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, raised concerns about the consequences of the 2015 territorial reform, which reduced local units from 410 to 60 municipalities. He stressed that centralization has damaged infrastructure, hindered investments and forced residents to leave mountainous and hilly areas. Berisha proposes the return of communes and municipalities to rural areas, following European models of decentralization, and announced the launch of a national debate on the Territorial Reform. MP Luçiano Boçi accused the SP of politically using the reform as a “vote warehouse”.

On the other hand, the SP MP, Elisa Spiropali, reacts to the personal attacks, emphasizing that her silence is not a lack of response, but a reflection on the arrogance and self-censorship that are damaging debates and meritocracy in politics. Meanwhile, the MP Erion Braçe confirmed his candidacy for mayor of Tirana, putting the city's interest above any personal interest and aiming for inclusive development.

In the economic field, the Minister of Agriculture, Andis Salla, presented the new support scheme for farmers for 2026, replacing the oil scheme with IPARD funds for investments in agriculture, trees, vineyards and agrotourism, with a budget of 5.2 billion lek.

Security and justice

Skënder Hita took office as the General Director of the State Police, promising an uncompromising fight against organized crime and corruption, police modernization, and international cooperation. Meanwhile, former president Ilir Meta continues the legal battle to replace the security measure “arrest with prison,” while the head of the Tirana IMT, Rigers Sheqeri, has been suspended on suspicion of abuse of office and tolerating unauthorized construction.

A cyberattack claimed by Iranian hackers "Homeland Justice" on the Supreme Court and the General Prosecutor's Office was denied by Albanian authorities, while the system is being monitored for security.

The Middle East and global tensions

The situation in Iran and the Middle East has escalated, with oil prices rising above $115 per barrel. Iran has imposed tariffs on ships in the Strait of Hormuz and continues to eliminate opponents, while the US and Israel prepare for military operations and secret destabilizing plans. Iranian hackers penetrate international systems, including FBI offices, and NATO monitors Turkey's ballistic missiles. China is taking advantage of the situation, while the global scene remains tense and with economic consequences.

Sports and Kosovo in history

Kosovo is very close to making its debut at the 2026 World Cup after a 4-3 victory over Slovakia. The “Fadil Vokrri” stadium will host the decisive match against Turkey, where players like Vedat Muriqi, Fisnik Asllani and Arijanet Muric aim to write history for the country and lead the national team to the final stage in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
