The Mayor of Durres, Emirjana Sako, has attempted to wash her hands of the death of municipal employee, 54-year-old Astrit Hysenaj, who lost his life due to bad weather.
Sako said the incident is suspected to have occurred outside of working hours.
"We were working in the New Durrës area until late yesterday and, during the morning, we received notification that the Erzeni was heading towards maximum quotas; we sent the groups. It is a repeated case like in 2021. We have not had flows that would bring the river out of its bed, but we think that flows may have also come from other cities. The evacuation a little earlier in Katundi i Ri, 35 people there, 55 from the Sukth administrative unit, have been accommodated in 2 hotels, because the cavalry and the army building have been exhausted from New Durrës. About 150 people are expected to be evacuated. At this moment, the most important thing is people's lives and then we have to think about the damages.

After that, at 4 pm, the family called to ask if he was at work. On the 7th, they filed a complaint, so he was not at work according to preliminary data ," said Sako.
Sako also announced that 35 people were evacuated in Katund i Ri and 55 others in Sukth, due to flooding.
