Heavy rain and snow at high altitudes have worsened the situation in the Lezha Region this Thursday.
The balance sheet so far is worrying: hundreds of hectares of land under water, dozens of homes with water in their yards, and roads blocked by landslides.
The most critical situation is in the Kurbin Municipality. The breach in the Drojë River embankment has caused the flooding of about 800 hectares of land in the village of Adriatik (Fushë Kuqe).
This crack has brought an extraordinary overload to the Drojë and Shëllinza dams, which are working at critical levels.
In addition to the Adriatic, the water level is also rising rapidly in the agricultural lands of Fushë Mamurras.
In Milot, the army has intervened with heavy equipment (excavators) to repair the Gallatë-Vinjollë road axis, which had been blocked.
Lezha: 960 hectares under water and houses surrounded
In the Municipality of Lezha, the total flooded area has reached 960 hectares. The most affected areas are:
Balldreni: 300 hectares under water and 20 houses with water in their yards.
Dajçi: 250 hectares.
Zejmeni: 200 hectares and 12 houses surrounded by water.
Despite the high figures, good news comes from the Gjadra and Drin rivers, where water levels have decreased in recent hours. However, problems remain in the infrastructure: at the Jacajve Bridge (Kolsh), the bridge legs are at risk from stream flows, while a landslide is reported in Kallmet.
Mirdita: Landslide and erosion from the Fan River
The situation in Mirdita is not calm either. In Kodër Rrëshen, about 4 dunyams of land have slipped, while the Fan i Vogël River has eroded over 30 meters of land in the Donaj neighborhood.
Working groups are on the ground in the villages of Simon and Kaçinar to rehabilitate neighborhood roads that are at risk from soil and surface water.
The situation of rivers and reservoirs
The Qafë Molla and Shkopet hydroelectric plants have started controlled discharges, which currently do not pose a risk due to the wide bed of the Mat River. The Drin River has fallen by 26 cm since this morning, dropping to a level of 1.46 m.
Despite the difficulties in some village axes, in the city of Lezha the situation has normalized and the roads are open. The good news is that the educational process throughout the region has continued normally.
Authorities, under the direction of the District Prefect, remain on high alert as the rainfall continues.
Likewise, in Pogradec, bad weather has caused numerous problems, where the flows of the Vërdova River have damaged the road, making vehicle movement difficult.
The Director of Emergencies at the Municipality of Pogradec, Nexhmi Torra, stated that the Vërdova River has remained a serious problem for the area for years, causing damage to agricultural lands and homes as a result of overflowing its banks due to rainfall.

According to Torra, the Municipality of Pogradec has been working for a long time to find a solution, submitting numerous requests to the relevant institutions. However, due to the limited financial situation of the municipality and the community, assistance has been requested from the central government.
'The Vërdova River has been an early problem. The Municipality of Pogradec has been working for a long time to solve this problem, we have also made requests to the relevant institutions. The financial situation of the municipality is small and we have turned to the government for help. We have spoken to all the institutions. The mayor has spoken to the institutions and they are ready, but we are still in the phase of applying for funding.
The Vërdova River causes problems in agricultural lands and in families. There are several families who have made reports. We have informed the road traffic companies and maintenance companies to be careful, because this road can be blocked from time to time. Since one road is blocked, we have also given a warning for the other, because it can also be blocked from time to time ,' he said.
