An English teacher at the 9-year-old "Gustav Majer" school has been dismissed from his post after it was found that he preached the religion of Jehovah during class, contrary to every principle and regulation of education in Albania.
The case was reported by the parents of fourth-grade students, who alerted school administrators to the use of religious-themed materials during English lessons.
According to verifications, the teacher had shown videos and given assignments related to religious orders and concepts, including these in the basic education learning process, Top Channel reports.
The complaints were filed earlier this week and led to a disciplinary committee meeting. After reviewing the evidence and testimony, the educational institution decided to dismiss the teacher, considering the case a violation of internal regulations and the law on pre-university education.
Testimonies from students and parents indicate that religious topics were repeatedly addressed during classes, partially replacing the course curriculum. According to them, discussions were not sporadic, but directly included in the teaching activity.
"5 hours of teaching about God. He would say God's words about the end of the world. He would only give us 10 hours about God. Is there any shame in telling a child 'die today, because you will be resurrected tomorrow?! '" are some of the parents' testimonies.
On the other hand, some parents claimed that they had not previously had concerns, based on the students' results in the English subject.
However, school administrators and regional educational structures assessed that using class time for religious preaching constitutes a serious violation.
The educational institution treated the case as an unacceptable precedent in the public system, emphasizing that the school should remain a space neutral towards religious beliefs and focused only on the official curriculum.
