Vlora finds no peace. The last days of December 2025 and January have been characterized by a series of protests by Vlora citizens. The lack of water in their homes almost turned into a revolt in the last days of 2025, while today it is the merchants who are protesting against arbitrary decisions, which move them from the city market to another area.
The Saturday morning protest in front of the Petro Marko Theater follows the City Council's decision to relocate them from the current market. The protesters say they were not consulted at all about the decision and accuse the mayor of making fun of them.
"The market is being taken away from us to build buildings," the traders denounce, while emphasizing that none of their representatives were accepted during the decision-making process.
Traders are demanding that the relocation process be postponed and carried out with their active participation in decision-making.
According to the decision, the fruit and vegetable sector will be located in the Çole market, while industrial traders will move to the Shumica market in Jalli i Narta.
A few days ago they attempted to forcefully enter the Vlora Municipality building, but were stopped only after the intervention of the municipal and security police.
Prime Minister Edi Rama, once a member of parliament for Vlora and who, since his early days as head of the government cabinet, stated that he would focus on the city, which is considered a "granary" of votes for the Socialists, seems to be "tired" of the developments of recent months. Rama did not hesitate to call the city to early partial elections, forcing the citizens to elect another Mayor, after withdrawing support for Ermal Dredha, and, as is his custom, began to pressure him until he resigned from his duties.
Today, the Prime Minister is expected to visit Vlora, perhaps not to discuss with those protesting, since as Rama constantly states, he does not accept pressure, and no one can force him to do anything under pressure.
