Representatives of the Interurban Transport of the city of Vlora took part in a peaceful protest this Monday, on the road that connects the Trans-Balkan axis with the Vlora highway.
The decision, which has already entered into force after a vote in the Municipal Council, to move the station from the new road at the entrance to the city, on the axis from the Vlora Penitentiary (detention) to the former Aviation School, has been opposed by drivers and representatives of transport companies.
Drivers oppose the decision approved by the City Council, according to which all buses will have their own common point for picking up and dropping off passengers near the highway entrance.
"We do not agree at all, we have not made any agreement with the municipality, which means we have made an agreement, we have agreed with the buses. We have not agreed! No condition is met here. Here the citizen is at risk, the drivers are at risk, and we do not agree at all. There are no minimum conditions, we have nowhere to stay, where to put a ticket office," said one of the representatives of the Interurban Company.
According to drivers and bus operators, the new location does not meet the minimum requirements to function as a bus terminal. They say that there are no toilets, no shelter for passengers in case of rain or high temperatures, and no safety conditions for daily work.
"This is not a proper station, but a roadside stop. Under these conditions, it is impossible, this is a source of accidents," the protesters declare.
Another added: "The station the mayor assigned us to is the most miserable station that does not meet the minimum requirements. If you look, they even put the trash cans in this morning."
On the other hand, the relocation of buses aims to put an end to previous problems in the city, where vehicles were parked at different points, creating difficulties for citizens and a lack of organization for interurban transport. The lack of a proper terminal for years has been one of the most discussed issues in the city.
It is expected that there will be an official reaction from local authorities regarding the requests of the carriers and the possibility of improving conditions at the new stopover point.
