The Portuguese Ruben Saraiva appears again today before the court of Lezha, a week after his defense lawyer got acquainted with the investigation file.
In the first two hearings held this month, Saraiva has asked for relief, as according to him, he is not implicated in the murder of Ardian Nikulaj.
According to his defense lawyer, there is still not enough evidence that Saraiva is implicated in this case. He has asked for extenuating measures until the end of the investigation by the prosecution.
The Portuguese Ruben Saraiva was extradited to Albania on December 31, 2023, after the decision of the Moroccan Court which accepted the request of the Albanian authorities. Since that time, he has been in detention in Tirana, waiting to face the Albanian justice system, while up to this stage of the investigation, he has continuously denied having anything to do with the murder of Ardian Nikulaj.
Convinced that he has nothing to do with the crime, the 28-year-old, through a request from the defense lawyer, is asking for freedom.
The serious incident happened on April 19 of last year at around 1:30 PM inside the bar owned by Nikulaj, in Lezhë. The latter was sitting at one of the tables, when the perpetrator entered and shot him 7 times in the head and body. Saraiva's arrest was made possible about a month later in Morocco.
