Ilaria Sula's parents, Gezime and Flamur, have publicly confessed the heavy drama they are experiencing after the tragic murder of their daughter, who was stabbed to death by her ex-boyfriend, Mark Samson, who confessed to the crime after hiding the girl's body and pretending to have left voluntarily, sending messages from Ilaria's phone to her friends and even her parents.
In an interview for the show "Verissimo" in Italy, they revealed shocking details from the last moments they had contact with their daughter and suspicions that the crime was planned.
" March 25, 2025 was the last day we spoke to Ilarian. For us, she was killed that very day. He had foreseen everything," the parents said, contradicting the perpetrator's statements in court that the event was not premeditated.
The alarm was raised after Ilaria did not get off the train that was supposed to take her home from Rome, where she was studying. The family immediately traveled to the Italian capital and filed a police report. There, according to Flamur, they confronted the suspected perpetrator.
"We went to Rome and filed a complaint. We met Mark at the police station. He said: 'I'm sorry we met in this situation'. He told me that he hadn't seen Ilaria for a month because they had separated. I asked him if he had anything to do with her disappearance and he swore on the grave of his mother (who is still alive), saying: 'I wouldn't harm a single hair of Ilaria, I love her' ," Flamur Sula recounts.
Meanwhile, during the days of the disappearance, the perpetrator had sent messages from Ilaria's phone to create the impression that she had left willingly. It was her brother, Leon, who managed to trace the phone to the perpetrator's house, which later led to the discovery of the crime and his confession.
The young woman's lifeless body was found on April 2, hidden in a suitcase and thrown into a ravine. According to the investigation, the perpetrator's mother, who has received a two-year sentence, also helped cover up the crime.
Ilaria's parents say they can never forgive this act. "How can he apologize after he has cleaned up our daughter's blood?" they ask in pain.
In her touching story, the victim's mother recalls her last moments with her daughter. " Just as I touched her the first time she was born, I held her with my hands on the last day. I wanted to wash her with my hands, to touch her body. I told my husband: 'I want to buy a dress for our princess, because she was the princess of the house.'
“I went to buy her a dress and shoes,” says Gëzimja, who visits her daughter at the cemetery every day: “ I go to her every day. I sit and talk to her about the dreams she couldn't achieve. She couldn't wait to graduate. Today, Ilaria gives me the strength to move forward.”
Today, the Sula family lives between pain and the demand for justice. " Our lives have changed forever. We no longer live, we only survive. We will move forward for our son and to ensure justice for Ilaria. The smile will never return to our faces, but for Ilariaa there must be justice ," the parents concluded.
