Former MP and former police chief Asllan Dogjani described the murder of a married couple in Lezha two days ago as very serious.
According to him, this event has nothing to do with the Kanun, but with the state's inability to prevent it. He even recounted a personal incident.
" For me, the Kanun is not a legacy from the past, but a failure of the state. The Kanun had strict rules that, if they were implemented, this event would not have happened. The Kanun is not applied only in the north, but also in the south, despite the fact that blood feuds are not mentioned there. I had a case in Fier when I was the police director. A mother comes to me in a meeting and says: I came to ask, because I heard that you are from Kukës, so-and-so killed my son, he got out of prison and is coming near my palace. I came to ask what you would do if it happened to you. I told her, I will give you an answer as a police officer, I took the file, we found evidence, there were also police mistakes, because we only deal with the courts, I arrested him, he was convicted and to this day no one has taken revenge. When a murder occurs, mediators come in to talk. In no case does the Kanun allow a woman to be killed. I had an old grandfather, a blood feud arises, he was with his wife, he says to her, "You fool, he said, today you found out that I'm with my wife. The law is being misused, if you killed a woman they would burn the house down, throw you out. It's a state malfunction ," Dogjani said on the "Now" show on "Euronews Albania".
