Security expert Fatjon Softa said that the arrest of Ervin Mata in Brazil after three years on the run is not considered a random event, but the result of a long and coordinated pursuit.
According to Softa, the moment of the arrest is related to concrete elements that may have led to the discovery of Mata's location.
"First of all, the timing of his arrest is not coincidental. There was either exposure of his physical or financial movements, there could also be an expose ," he told ABC News.
The expert emphasized that the process is now entering another phase, that of extradition, which may take longer depending on legal procedures and cooperation between countries.
"We are in the arrest phase, extradition could take 1 month, but it could also take a year. There are several procedures that must be followed," said Softa.
He also stressed the importance of international cooperation in this case, leaving open the possibility of other actors being involved in capturing Mata.
"Of course we are waiting for evidence and facts. It may not be a move by the head of SPAK, but mediation by the Americans who are very sensitive about cocaine lines," said the expert.
According to Softa, the arrest may be part of a broader operation related to international drug trafficking networks, while investigations are expected to reveal more details in the future.
