Throughout the communist regime of Enver Hoxha and his successor Ramiz Alia, hundreds and thousands of political prisoners serving their sentences in camps and prisons located in several different districts of the country, from south to north, in addition to the lack of the most basic human rights and freedoms, were also subjected to inhumane working and living conditions, where one of the main issues was the lack of food, or its poor quality, which caused political prisoners (but also those convicted of ordinary crimes) to reach the brink of starvation!
This is already known, among other things, from the testimonies and memoirs of dozens of former political prisoners, who immediately after the collapse of communism in the early 1990s, in their writings or books, as well as various television shows, have shown horrifying evidence regarding the aspect of hunger in camps and prisons, mainly those of forced labor and internment.
Such as: Vloçishti and Orman-Pojani, which were opened immediately after the end of the war to drain the Maliqi Marsh in the Devoll plain, where the convicts were forced to eat herbs, to at least somewhat quench their hunger. This, that is, permanent hunger, continued even later in the Tepelena internment camp, in Ura Vajgurore, Kamza, Porto-Palermo, Ura e Bonës (Peqin-Elbasan), Kuçi, Bedeni, Thumana, and up to the Rubik, Repsi, Spaçi, Qafa e Barit camps, etc.
While the stories of these forced labor camps and beyond are already known from the testimonies of former political prisoners who have served long years of imprisonment there, in this article we are publishing a rare archival document with the acronym "Secret" (already declassified), dating back to 1976, where the communist regime itself (Ministry of Internal Affairs) reveals how political prisoners were treated in those years, regarding the food problem, by giving them the meat of cattle that fell ill and died for various reasons. For more information about this, see the document in question, which is published for the first time and with the corresponding facsimile, by Memorie.al

FALL
On 29 and 30.11.1976, in the Orosh agricultural cooperative, Mashterkorit sector, 13 goats died and 92 others were sent to ward 303 in Spaç, for forced slaughter, as there was no possibility of rescue. The operational group found that, due to their poor treatment, over 70% of the herd has been weakened and the average weight of each goat is 3.5 kg. This treatment has started since the herd was weaned, progressing to bronchopneumonia. The case is being followed up./ Memorie.al
