May 11 elections, expert: Parties did not have genuine programs, citizens with

Economic expert Enea Janko said that the May 11 vote showed that citizens voted for stability and not for change. He added that citizens voted for their short-term interests more than for a long-term political-economic program. Janko analyzed that the ideological vote has faded.

"The voter is oriented towards short-term interests, more than party programs. The vote is more influenced by the promises of the candidates. For example, a promise for a legalization permit, for a job in the administration for oneself or one's family, for an additional pension. No one deals with major promises for salary increases or pensions. Therefore, from this perspective, the economic voter dominates in these elections ," Janko told "Vizion Plus".

The challenges that await the economy in the coming years are numerous. According to him, increasing the quality of life, increasing income in the face of a high cost of living is the biggest challenge.

"The cost of living has increased significantly. Here I am talking about the majority of Albanians and not about one percent of the population. I live in the United States of America. I can tell you without fear that food prices in Albania are higher than in New York. It is impossible that with this standard of living, where everything has become unaffordable, no emigrant will return. On the contrary, young people will emigrate because they cannot afford to live," Janko said.

Even promises for salary and pension increases are not realistic. According to Janko, the promise of a minimum pension of 200 euros is insufficient.

"The Socialist Party has promised that in the next 4 years there will be a minimum pension of 200 euros. In 2030 it seems impossible to live with such a pension. Therefore, this promise should be reviewed, as it does not respond to living developments. While the promises for salary increases are more populist since salaries only increase with productivity ," he added.

According to the expert, the parties did not have genuine economic programs, but only populist promises.
