After SPAK, the General Prosecutor's Office has also responded to experts who are drafting the amnesty bill, which is expected to benefit dozens of prisoners, as well as close hundreds of cases under investigation for minor crimes.

As sources have revealed, the central prosecution body has opposed two points of the draft law. First, the general prosecution has a different suggestion from the drafters for dismissing cases reported during 2025 and, unlike the threshold of two years in prison, it is requested to amnesty crimes that are under criminal prosecution and that are punishable by up to 3 years in prison.

It is further suggested to the legislator that the category under criminal prosecution for electoral crimes and under the jurisdiction of SPAK, but with this penalty margin, add the condition of prohibition to benefit.

The second proposal is related to the condition of benefiting from amnesty only if the decision has become final by December 31, 2025. The General Prosecutor's Office requires precision and caution on this point.

The draft law mentions that those who have up to 3 years left in prison will benefit, which according to the Ministry of Justice will release 380 prisoners. Other convicts will also benefit from a one and a half year sentence reduction, excluding lifers and those found guilty by SPAK for everything from corruption to organized crime.

However, amnesty remains open as an option for SPAK convicts for exercising illegal influence. A few days ago, SPAK confirmed to Top Channel that the draft law does not affect the primary competencies of the Special Prosecution Office.

" We have expressed the opinion that other criminal offenses that are not within the competence of SPAK, but that may be closely related in the form of proceedings related to the criminal case within the competence of the Special Prosecution Office, should not be included in the amnesty law ," SPAK stated to TCH.

Once the responses are provided, the drafters have several weeks to adjust the suggestions and submit them to the law committee. / Top Channel
