The US Embassy in Tirana has dedicated a response to International Holocaust Remembrance Day, expressing its respect for the six million murdered Jewish victims.
The Embassy recalled the statement of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who stated that "Anti-Semitism has no place in this world."
"On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and reaffirm our shared responsibility to remember the past and work toward a future free from violence and hatred ," the US Embassy said in a statement.
In its message, the embassy emphasizes the importance of historical memory as an essential tool to prevent the recurrence of such crimes and to combat all forms of hatred and discrimination in modern societies. Quoting Secretary Rubio, the statement emphasizes that anti-Semitism has no place in the world.
The US Embassy also recalls the continued commitment of the US to confronting not only anti-Semitism, but also the distortion of the Holocaust.
"The United States remains committed to confronting anti-Semitism and Holocaust distortion," the statement further said.
A special part of the message is dedicated to Albania’s historical role during World War II. The Embassy praises Albania as one of the few Nazi-occupied countries where Jews found refuge, emphasizing that this happened thanks to the courage of ordinary Albanians. This assessment reaffirms Albania’s reputation as a country that, in a time of terror and persecution, chose humanity and solidarity.
The U.S. Embassy also welcomes Albania’s continued cooperation in the fight against anti-Semitism. A concrete example of this commitment, according to the statement, is Albania’s adoption last year of the Best Practices for the Principles of the Washington Conference on Nazi-Confiscated Art. These practices, the embassy emphasizes, advance justice and compensation for Holocaust-era cultural property.
The US Embassy's message comes as a clear call for remembrance, reflection, and action, underlining that confronting the past is essential for building a more just future, free from hatred and violence.
