Fires in the country, 3 still active; residents of Finiq village evacuated

The Ministry of Defense announces that during the last 24 hours, 21 fires have been identified, of which 18 have been extinguished and 3 are still active.

The fire in the Poliçan area of Berat continues to be active in the forest area, far from the Arms Plant. It is reported that there are 7 firefighting vehicles on the ground, 40 MZSH personnel from Poliçan, Berat and Skrapar, 20 municipal forces and 1 firefighting vehicle with a team from the Armed Forces, who have resumed work to extinguish the flames since the early hours of this morning. The fire in the area near the plant has been extinguished, while work is being done to completely extinguish the remaining part of the forest with bushes.

Meanwhile, the police have identified the perpetrator of the arson attack on the territory of the Arms Factory in Poliçan. He is a 63-year-old resident of the area, a person with mental health problems.

It should be noted that the terrain is extremely difficult and everything is done with makeshift tools, backpack pumps and manual labor. The fire that broke out yesterday afternoon was within the territory of the weapons factory, an area that is strictly prohibited and where civilians or the media are not allowed without the appropriate authorization.

According to plant managers, it is learned that the plant's hydrants were not working and had no water. Firefighting vehicles were supplied with water by going to the city, which significantly complicated the work of extinguishing the fire in a timely manner.

Several villages in the Finiq municipality were seriously endangered by a powerful fire, where the intensive intervention throughout the night by firefighting forces and members of the Armed Forces was crucial in curbing the spread of the flames towards residential areas. The main goal of the operation was to protect the lives and property of the residents.

Due to the worsening situation, the decision was made yesterday evening to evacuate the residents of the village of Dhivër as a safety measure. Fortunately, no human casualties have been reported so far.

Trucks and personnel from the Saranda Water and Sewerage Company have also been deployed to assist in the operation, while in the early hours of the morning a helicopter arrived again to assist in the aerial operations.

The fire has engulfed the villages of Dhivër, Kularat, Cerkovicë, Shën Ndre and Janicat, while the villages of Leshnicë, Memoraq and Navaricë are also at risk. Residents say they have suffered significant damage to olive trees and trees. In the village of Cerkovicë, two uninhabited houses have burned down, while in Shën Ndre two other uninhabited houses have burned down. The fire has also affected the yards and gardens of dozens of houses in these areas.

Residents say the firefighters' work was wonderful and decisive, while the helicopter's intervention was considered efficient in controlling the situation.

In Fier County, large-scale flames are spreading rapidly in the pine forest between the villages of Gjinoqare, Drenie and Lofkënd. Military forces from the Poshnje unit, as well as firefighters from Mallakastra and Patos, are at the scene. Due to the difficult terrain, firefighters from the city, as well as Mallakastra, are operating to extinguish the flames with backpack equipment. The head of the Patos fire department, Alket Halimi, tells “Report TV” that the flames have also spread due to the dense vegetation.

The spread of the flames is accompanied by sudden explosions, due to the perennial coniferous carpet. The dense bushes and rugged terrain are significantly making it difficult for firefighters to intervene. So far, it is reported that about 5 hectares of forest and bushes have burned since yesterday afternoon.

Due to the worsening situation, the decision was made during the evening to evacuate the residents of the village of Dhivër, as a safety measure. Fortunately, no human casualties have been reported so far.
