Kumbaro is being sought today for the criminal offense of illegal immigration, meaning that he has been staying in the United Kingdom illegally.
Since 2011, he has been missing, while in Albania, the former Serious Crimes Court sentenced him to 15 years in prison in a trial related to the disappearance of businessman Remzi Hoxha, one of the most mysterious cases of the Albanian transition.
This is Ilir Kumbaro, the former head of the SHIK office in Tirana, before 1997, during the period when this institution was led by Bashkim Gazidede, one of Sali Berisha's most trusted men, who at that time held the position of President of the Republic.
Recently, the London Police decided to declare Kumbaro, who has been missing without a trace since 2011, a time when a Court in the United Kingdom was to decide whether or not he would be extradited to Albania, where the trial against him and several other suspects was taking place.
From that time on, Kumbaro was lost to all trace, although the press of the time reported that he was being monitored through a bracelet placed by British authorities.
The London Police appeal is accompanied by a photo of the former important SHISH official when he was handcuffed in September 2008 for extradition to Albania, Top Channel reports, while the published file states that he is now 70 years old.
"This man, now 70, failed to appear in 2011 following an arrest warrant issued by Albania for crimes related to kidnapping and torture," says the Metropolitan Police.

Kumbaro has been accused of ordering the kidnapping and torture of Remzi Hoxha, who has been missing since 1995, when, according to reports, he was forcibly taken by civilians and then moved to the SHIK base in Kune Vain, Lezha.
Investigations revealed that he was kidnapped in Tirana by SHIK officials on “Siri Kodra” street, near a warehouse located in the area called “Frigoriferi.” His body was never found.
Along with Remzi Hoxha, Zizo Kristopulli and Avdyl Loshaj were also kidnapped. There have been numerous allusions to the incident, while no light has ever been shed on the crime, despite numerous testimonies and requests from relatives of the missing.
