Albania has been engulfed by a new wave of fires, as high temperatures and winds have contributed to the outbreak of flames in several regions of the country. The Ministry of Defense, through the National Civil Emergency Operations Center, has reported a total of 20 active fires as of June 23, 2025, of which 17 have been successfully extinguished and 3 still remain under partial control.
The most problematic situation is in Himara, Kukës and Mirdita. In Himara, the fire has spread in several directions, but the most worrying remains the village of Kudhës, where the flames are still active with high intensity. According to the authorities, the fire does not pose an immediate danger to homes, but the intervention continues by the firefighting forces of Himara, Vlora, Delvinë, Finiqi and Saranda.
In Kukës, the fire has engulfed an urban waste dump in the village of Kolsh, where fire trucks, heavy equipment and operational forces from the municipality have been deployed. Meanwhile, in Mirdita, the fire in the village of Nderfan has engulfed an area of young forest and dense bushes, making it impossible to intervene with firefighting vehicles due to the difficult terrain. The work is being carried out there with forces from the forest service, the municipality and volunteers.
Meanwhile, 17 other fires have been neutralized thanks to a coordinated operation by local and central structures in areas such as Tirana, Lezha, Delvina, Pogradec, Patos, Berat, Saranda and others. The Ministry announces that the interventions have been uninterrupted throughout the day and appeals for increased vigilance, as the risk of recurrence of fires remains high.
After continuous work by operational forces on the ground, it was possible to completely isolate and extinguish the fires in:
1. In the "Golden Mill" neighborhood, Delvinë municipality.
2. In the village of Alarup, Çërrava administrative unit, Pogradec municipality.
3. On Elbasan Street, administrative unit No. 2, Tirana municipality.
4. In the village of Rilë, Shënkoll administrative unit, Lezhë municipality.
5. In the village of Malaj, Rrëshen administrative unit, Mirditë municipality.
6. In the village of Vanë, Vergo administrative unit, Delvinë municipality.
7. In the "Xile Lici" neighborhood, Gramsh municipality.
8. In the village of Kotë, Selenica municipality.
9. On "Arbrit Street", Adm. Zall-Bastar, Municipality of Tirana.
10. In the village of Dukas, Patos municipality.
11. In Shëngjin, Lezha municipality
12. In the village of Visokë, administrative unit of Qëndër Dukas, municipality of Mallakastër.
13. In the "Çlirim" neighborhood of a wood processing factory, Berat municipality.
14. In Ksamil, Saranda municipality
15. In the village of Mërqi, Kallmet administrative unit, Lezha municipality.
16. In the Shkoza area, administrative unit No. 1, Tirana municipality.
17. At the Rila intersection, on the Lezhë-Laç axis.
Currently, outbreaks are active in:
Vlora Region
1. In the municipality of Himara, the fire has spread in three directions. 1. The direction Porto Palermo The fire has been completely extinguished. 2. The Qafë Lerë – Llaman area, there are several small fires with low intensity. The fires are under control and currently do not pose a risk of spreading. 3. Kudhës village, the fire is active but with increased intensity and does not pose a risk to homes or business buildings. The intervention to isolate the fire by the forces of the MZSH of Himara, Vlora, Delvina, Finiqi and Saranda continues.
Kukes District
2. In the village of Kolsh, Mamëz administrative unit, Kukës municipality, work is underway to extinguish the fire that broke out at the urban waste dump, with 2 fire trucks with 10 personnel, 1 fire engine, 1 excavator, and 4 trucks from the Municipality Services Directorate.
Lezha District
3. In the village of Nderfan, Rrëshen administrative unit, Mirditë municipality, there is a fire in young forest and dense bushes, where it is impossible to intervene with firefighting vehicles. 2 firefighting vehicles with 6 personnel, 3 forces from the forest service, 3 municipal forces and 2 volunteer forces participated in the operation.
