A major police operation is underway in the center of Uppsala on Tuesday afternoon, Swedish media reported. Initial reports indicate that the police operation began after gunshots were fired, and at least three people have lost their lives.
The incident occurred in Vaksala Square, and police were notified by witnesses at the scene who heard several explosions that sounded like gunshots.
Police have cordoned off a large area and are investigating what happened.
Uppsala is located about 70 km north of Stockholm and is known as a student city.
