The Rafah border crossing was closed immediately after 20 aid trucks crossed to Gaza, reports CNN.
The moment of the passing of the trucks was broadcast live on Egyptian television, while many citizens started the celebration.
The American Embassy announced earlier that the border crossing between Egypt and Gaza will be opened this morning to allow foreign nationals to leave Gaza.
Hamas-controlled government media offices said the trucks were loaded with medicine, medical supplies and a limited amount of canned food.
Workers say they are a fraction of what is required for the 2.2 million people huddled in Gaza under a blockade imposed by Israel and Egypt.
The situation is worsening daily with hospitals on the verge of collapse and Gazans quickly running out of food, water and other supplies amid near-constant Israeli bombardment.
The aid arrival comes just a day after Gaza freed two American hostages, the first since the October 7 attacks by Hamas, but their release raised questions about the fate of around 200 other hostages.
Hamas, the Islamist militant group that controls Gaza, handed over the hostages at the border yesterday, Judith Tai Raanan and her 17-year-old daughter Natalie Raanan.
For their family, the release marked the end of a nightmare that began on October 7, when members of Hamas carried out the worst massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, killing more than 1,400 people and abducting many in Gaza.
