"37 million tons of waste", UN official: For the reconstruction of

A UN official has said that the war in Gaza has created about 37 million tons of debris, most of it unexploded bombs, which could take more than a decade to remove.

In Gaza, there is an average of 300 kilograms of rubble per square meter.

" Based on the current amount of waste in Gaza, with 100 trucks we need 14 years of work. As the war continues, it will be impossible to estimate how long it will take to clear ," said Pehr Lodhammar, former head of the United Nations Demining Service for Iraq.

Clearing the wreckage will be slow and dangerous work because of the threat from buried shells, rockets and other weapons.

So far, efforts by Western countries to stop the war have been ignored by Israel, which is threatening an offensive in Rafah.
