The Minister of Finance in Germany, Christian Lindner, has said that the support for Ukraine will continue even though this means an increase in expenses.
"Germany will continue its support for Ukraine as a bulwark against Russian President Vladimir Putin's ambitions, but that means spending will continue to rise," Finance Minister Christian Lindner said.
The minister said that even though Putin is only attacking Ukraine, he is targeting the whole of Europe, and our way of life.
"Putin wants not only to wipe Ukraine off the map, but to divide Europe and NATO and ensure that the United States withdraws from Europe. Putin's goal is not Ukraine. Putin's goal is to be able to exercise power over us. And he should never succeed in this", warned the minister.
For this reason, Germany must improve its defense system, to protect not only itself, but also its allies.
"The 100 billion euro ($107 billion) special fund created to help the German military after Russia invades its neighbor in 2022 will be used up within a few years," Lindner said.
After using this fund, the German army will have to rely only on regular budget funds, but this will be an added difficulty considering the growing debt.
