Rescue operations continue intensively in the flooded areas in central Greece. But some retailers have tried to take advantage of the natural disaster after the floods.
The Greek media informs that on the social network Facebook there are several announcements from some market sellers who sell water for areas that have been flooded and have neither water supply nor electricity.
It is about the area of Volos, as the sellers offer water for 6-7 euros.
We remind you that in the port city of Volos with about 150,000 inhabitants, the heavy rains have caused the roads to sink into the mud. The circulation of cars is prohibited, so that the rescue forces have free circulation. Power and water supplies were not working until Thursday evening.
While the rest of Greece and tourism continue normally, in the touristic region of Pilion in Thessaly, around 500 families of vacationers have been isolated by the floods. The deputy mayor of South Pelion, Dimitris Parrisiadis, announced to the newspaper "Kathimerini" that the destruction is great and most of the villages have remained isolated from the surrounding world. About 500 Greek families and tourists are isolated south of Pilioni.
Since Monday evening (04.09.2023) Greece was affected by the low pressure storm that caused heavy rainfall. On Wednesday evening, "Daniel" arrived in the African region, causing flooding in several subway stations in Athens.
The government and experts classify the rainfall as an extreme weather event. In Magnisia, so much rain has fallen in 24 hours that it has never been recorded since records began in 1955. According to meteorologists, the weather started to improve from Friday.
