Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump congratulated each other on the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany through their advisers, the Kremlin announced.
"Through their advisers, the Russian president and President Trump exchanged congratulations on the occasion of our joint holiday," Yuri Ushakov, Putin's foreign policy adviser, told state television Channel One.
"These were warm words, mutual congratulations on our great common holiday," said Ushakov.
Russia celebrated the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory in World War II on Friday with a military parade attended by several world leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping.
TASS reports that Lynn Tracy, the US ambassador to Russia, did not attend the parade.
