US Vice President JD Vance stated that the United States will not intervene in the clash between India and Pakistan.
Vance considers this conflict between the two nuclear powers "outside the US interest."
In an interview with Fox News, Vance said the US will try to encourage a reduction in tensions, but does not have the power to force either side to stop the fighting.
"We can try to encourage them to de-escalate, but we will not get involved in a war that has nothing to do with us and that we cannot control," Vance said.
He added that the administration hopes the clashes will not escalate into a regional war or, worse, a nuclear conflict. These statements are in line with former President Donald Trump’s “America First” foreign policy, which aims to reduce the US’s role as a mediator in international conflicts.
Meanwhile, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has spoken with the leaders of both countries, calling for the immediate de-escalation of the situation.
