The two sides will discuss what are called "security protocols" and "territorial issues," which can be translated as what America is willing to give Ukraine, as long as it is willing to give Russia certain territories.

High-level talks between Ukrainian and United States delegations have begun in Saudi Arabia to end Russia's war in Ukraine.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio was seen smiling in front of the media, but not the Ukrainian officials who were sitting on the other side of the table, to start the meeting taking place in a luxury hotel.

These talks reflect new diplomatic efforts to end the war, following a fierce and unprecedented discussion between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenky and US President Donald Trump at the White House.

Ukrainian officials told media on Monday they would propose a ceasefire covering the Black Sea that would ensure safe passage of ships, stop the use of long-range missiles that have hit civilians in Ukraine, and release prisoners.

The two sides will discuss what are called "security protocols" and "territorial issues," which can be translated as what America is willing to give Ukraine, as long as it is willing to give Russia certain territories.

So far, Ukraine has been very reluctant to go into details, but it has no choice but to engage in these talks because of Europe's and Ukraine's continued reliance on America's military might.

Ukraine is still seeking a security guarantee from America that it would intervene if Russia invaded again after the ceasefire was signed. It is a guarantee that the White House has so far refused to provide.

The talks are taking place as it has been reported that at least one person has been killed and 18 others have been injured as a result of massive drone attacks in 10 regions of Russia.

Russian air defenses said they shot down 337 Ukrainian drones overnight. Ukrainian and American officials have not yet commented on the drone attack in Russia.

Following this meeting in Saudi, US special envoy Steve Witkoff may meet with Vladimir Putin in Moscow later this week./ Pamphlet
