Russian President Vladimir Putin has reacted for the first time after the accusations of Alexei Nevalny's wife, Yulia.
Putin called the accusations of the Russian opposition leader's wife baseless and disgusting. Kremlin spokesman Dimitry Peskov said that Putin has not seen the video where Yulia Navalnaya said that the Russian leader killed her husband, while he did not comment on the allegations.
The wife of the deceased said that "Navalny was poisoned with Novichok and that Putin killed him".
The allegation that Alexei Navalny, Vladimir Putin's main rival in Russia, was poisoned with the chemical Novichok emerged on Monday afternoon with a video posted on social media by his wife saying: “Vladimir Putin killed my husband. Somewhere in a prison in the Arctic Circle, Putin not only killed Alexei Navalny as a person, he wanted to kill our hope, our freedom, our future."
She accused Russia of hiding her husband's body because what Moscow expects is that traces of novichok disappear from his body.
In the video, Navalny's widow also vows to make public the names of the people involved in her husband's death and the reason why he breathed his last in the "wolf prison".
"I want to live in a free Russia, I want to create a free Russia, I will continue the work of Alexei Navalny. I'm not afraid, don't be either. I invite you to stay by my side, let's not share only the sadness and pain that has embraced us and does not say to let us go. I invite you to share the rage and hatred for those who dared to kill our future. I speak to you with the words of Alexei, which I truly believe. There's no shame in doing little or nothing, letting them scare you. What we need is a free, peaceful and happy Russia. The wonderful Russia of the future that my husband dreamed of. This is what we need ," Navalny's wife said.
