Russia has concentrated 110,000 troops in eastern Ukraine, where they have been waging a weeks-long offensive in the Donetsk and Kharkiv regions, and of those, 45,000 are fighting as they try to advance towards Kupyansk and 48,000 towards Lyman. This was stated by the spokesman of the Eastern Forces of Ukraine, Ilya Yevlash, quoted by the Telegram channel of the military administration of the city of Kyiv (Kmva).

According to the spokesman, the Ukrainian army is in control of the situation in that sector.

Ukrainian forces fighting on the southern front, in the Zaporizhzhia region, having broken through the most fortified Russian defensive line, are now able to advance faster: writes the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), which reports. what a Ukrainian commander told Reuters.

According to the latter, after the main breakthrough, his troops encountered only Russian "logistics groups" and now things are "easier" in this area, which points towards the south and Crimea.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he expects "a powerful September for Ukraine", including key decisions from Western allies regarding the supply of weapons and important equipment to Kiev.

Zelensky's statement came hours after warnings of Russian airstrikes were sounded across Ukraine and authorities announced they had destroyed several Moscow cruise missiles.

In a Telegram post, Zelensky said he expects "new defense packages for Ukrainian soldiers" to arrive in the coming weeks.

"Artillery, armored vehicles, air defense systems and missiles and necessary equipment," he wrote.

"Our partners have been informed about our needs. We are waiting for them to make decisions," the Ukrainian president added.

According to Zelensky, a united world "is stronger than any aggressor. In September, we will be more united."

Zelensky's announcement came hours after the Ukrainian military said it had destroyed four Russian cruise missiles. Authorities in Kiev said they have destroyed all the missiles launched towards the Ukrainian capital.

The Ukrainian army also said it is continuing its counteroffensive in Melitopol in the Zaporizhzhia region. This important city was taken by Russia shortly after Moscow launched its unprovoked invasion of Ukraine in February last year.
