A large hematoma on President Donald Trump's right hand has come under the spotlight during his meeting with his French counterpart.
The President of the United States, as documented by photos published by American media, has a visible bruise on the back of his right hand. The hematoma became apparent during Monday's meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, hosted at the White House.
The footage has prompted questions about the cause of the hematoma and the overall condition of the 78-year-old president.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt gave an official version, and the news quickly spread in American media.
"President Trump is a man of the people, his commitment is constant and he demonstrates it every day.
"President Trump has a hematoma on his hand because he works all the time and shakes hands all day," Leavitt explained.
Meanwhile, NBC notes that Trump's right hand has appeared in an abnormal condition on two other occasions, in August and November of last year. The presence of hematomas or redness was also noted last year by other newspapers, while late last year, in an interview for NBC News' 'Meet the Press' program, the president stated that he would release his medical records.
