Riyadh and Doha declare Iranian embassy staff "persona non grata" after attacks on energy infrastructure.

Saudi Arabia has expelled several Iranian embassy employees, including the military attaché, declaring them "persona non grata" and asking them to leave the country within 24 hours.

The decision follows a similar measure by Qatar, which a day earlier also declared the military and security attachés of the Iranian Embassy in Doha, along with their staff, persona non grata.

According to reports, Qatar's reaction came after Iran struck the country's main gas facility, in a development linked to a previous Israeli attack on the South Pars gas field in Iran.

The expulsion of diplomats signals a significant increase in tensions between Iran and the Gulf countries, at a time when the regional conflict is expanding and also affecting strategic energy infrastructure.

Recent developments highlight the risk of the crisis spreading beyond the borders of the initial conflict, involving new actors in the region.
