United States President Donald Trump, during a brief telephone conversation with the BBC, stated that his actions and statements towards Iran have been effective.
Trump was asked whether his previous statement warning that "an entire civilization will die tonight" implied a threat to use nuclear weapons against Iran. He did not directly clarify this, but responded that the other side is ready for a deal.
"The other side is eager to make a deal. So whatever I say or do, it seems to be working very well," Trump told the BBC.
Regarding NATO, the US president stressed that the US "didn't need" the alliance in a confrontation with Iran, but added that he would have preferred its involvement. Asked about this stance, he stated that he wanted to test whether allies would engage.
