Trump attacks Schumer: He should apologize immediately
Trump-Schumer

United States President Donald Trump has sharply attacked Senate Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer after the latter's statement on federal immigration agencies.

In a public response, Trump accused Schumer of making a "wrong, dangerous and unpatriotic" statement, referring to the claim that "nobody respects" agencies like Border Patrol and ICE anymore. The president demanded that Schumer "immediately apologize" to the employees of these institutions, whom he described as "great patriots."

"Wow! 'Crying Chuck', Chuck Schumer, just said, for the whole world to hear, that 'nobody respects Border Patrol or ICE.' This is one of the most egregious, inaccurate, unpatriotic, and dangerous statements I have ever heard from a 'professional' politician. He should immediately apologize to these great patriots, and I mean it now ," Trump wrote.

This clash comes at a time of broader political tension in Washington, where the debate has also shifted to the role of the Justice Department and its use in political matters.

A day earlier, Schumer sharply criticized the Trump administration in his speech to the Senate, accusing the president of turning the Justice Department into a “Department of Vengeance.” His comments came after an 11-count indictment was filed against the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), an institution known for monitoring extremist groups.

According to the Justice Department, the charges include wire and bank fraud, tied to a now-defunct program that used paid informants to track the activities of extremist groups. The indictment documents mention surveillance operations linked to events and organizations such as the “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville, as well as groups such as the Ku Klux Klan and other white supremacist organizations.

Schumer dismissed the allegations as baseless, stating that the case is “not really about financial fraud” but rather a political effort against an organization that is dedicated to combating extremism. He called the claim of collaboration between the SPLC and groups like the KKK “absurd” and baseless.

At the same time, the Justice Department has defended its actions. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has said that the organization paid for resources that “incited racial hatred,” arguing that instead of fighting extremism, the program funded it. According to him, the SPLC also created fictitious financial structures to carry out this scheme.

The debate has also prompted reactions from civil rights organizations, which have expressed concern about the possibility of politicization of justice institutions and the impact on freedom of expression.

Interpretations of the situation remain divided: the Trump administration presents the issue as part of the fight against illegal activities and security threats, while critics see it as a political clash with consequences for the institutional balance in the US.
