US President Joe Biden said that a cease-fire in Gaza is possible before the end of his presidential term.
In an interview for the CBS channel, Biden spoke about the cease-fire issue in Gaza.
To the question of whether or not a cease-fire in Gaza is possible before the end of his presidential term, President Biden has given the answer that "yes, it is still possible".
"The cease-fire plan supported by the United Nations Security Council is still viable," declared Biden, who added that they continue to work so that the situation "does not turn into a regional war."
On May 31, Biden announced the 3-phase ceasefire plan, which he emphasized was Israel's proposal.
Briefly, the plan included a permanent cease-fire, the withdrawal of Israel from all of Gaza, the mutual release of hostages and prisoners, the return of displaced Palestinians to Gaza, the uninterrupted and sufficient delivery of humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of Gaza.
While later, Netanyahu presented new conditions related to negotiations for the exchange of hostages. These conditions provided for "preventing the return of armed Palestinians from the south to the north and keeping the Israeli army in the Philadelphia corridor on the border between Gaza and Egypt."
In a joint statement released on August 8, the US, Egypt and Qatar on securing a ceasefire and hostage exchange in Gaza called on Israel and Hamas to resume negotiations in Cairo or Doha on August 15.
