US-Iran ceasefire, Israeli opposition leader attacks Netanyahu: Political
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid and Benjamin Netanyahu

Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has criticized Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of the war, after the Israeli prime minister issued a statement overnight in support of President Trump's ceasefire.

Netanyahu says the two-week ceasefire will not include Lebanon, although Iran and Pakistan have said it will. Lapid calls the situation a "political disaster" for Israel.

"Israel was not even at the negotiating table when decisions were made regarding the essence of our national security," says the opposition leader.

"The military did everything they asked, the public showed extraordinary resilience, but Netanyahu failed politically, failed strategically and did not fulfill any of the goals he set himself."

In a statement issued after the ceasefire decision, "Israel supports President Trump's decision to suspend attacks against Iran for two weeks, on the condition that Iran immediately opens the strait and stops all attacks on the US, Israel and countries in the region."

"Israel states that it supports US efforts to ensure that Iran no longer poses a nuclear, missile and terrorist threat to America, Israel, Iran's Arab neighbors and the world."

"The United States has told Israel that it is committed to achieving these goals, which are shared by the United States, Israel, and Israel's regional allies, in future negotiations."

"The two-week ceasefire does not include Lebanon," Israel's statement said.

Earlier, Pakistan and Iran said the ceasefire also included Lebanon.
