The Orion spacecraft lost contact with Earth for about 40 minutes while passing the far side of the Moon, an expected interruption due to a lack of signal in that area.
After communication was restored, astronaut Christina Koch delivered a message that has attracted global attention.
In the first connection with NASA control center, she said: "Houston, Integrity, communications control. It's so good to hear from Earth again."

When we headed this ship to the Moon, I said we are not leaving Earth, we are choosing it, and that is true.

After reaching the far side of the Moon, the crew began the return phase towards Earth, surpassing the distance previously achieved by the Apollo 13 mission in 1970.
