Serbian analyst Dusan Janic has spoken about the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, which he sees as a paradoxical situation.
Asked about the Russian factor in Serbia, how he sees the current situation there and whether Putin can allow the collapse of the regime he has created with Vučić's strong hand in Kosovo, the analyst stated that Russia will not support Vučić and that it is using the crises occurring in Syria or Gaza in order to manage some things in the Western Balkans regarding the energy sector.
"Russia is not going to support Vucic and Russia is not going to invest in economic interests. Russia is using the crisis in Syria and the upcoming crisis in Iraq, including the one in Gaza, to manage some things with Washington about the energy sector in the Western Balkans."
"Russia is not directly involved in the Albanian energy market and Russia will protect Gazprom's assets not only in gas and oil supplies but they will not insist on withdrawing their companies. They will demand a lot from the Americans in exchange if America wants to control the Western Balkans ," Janjic told A2 CNN.
Among other things, he emphasized that not only Putin, but no one has confidence in Vučić's politics.
"Russia and America are not very interested in possible conflicts in this region. Both of these countries are threatened by Chinese influence. This is the problem for Serbia and this is one of the reasons why Putin and the Kremlin do not trust Vučić's politics. No one trusts his politics. It is impossible to have good relations with everyone because this means that you are not supporting anyone," said Dušan Janjić.
