Cedomir Stojkovic, the lawyer of the Serbian opposition politician, Nikola Sandulovic, defied the Serbian authorities by paying homage to the grave of Blerina Jashari in the "Adem Jashari" Complex in Prekaz, where he left a message.
"Hate dies. You live forever. A thousand tears for a thousand years, and millions of hopes and dreams. Which start with the word 'I'm sorry'", the message says.
Stojkovic had warned him a day earlier that he would go and lay flowers on the grave of the 7-year-old girl who was killed along with other members of the Jashari family by the Serbian armed forces in 1998.
Stojkovic wrote that after this action he would surrender to the authorities in Belgrade to challenge them and show that in Serbia there is a new rule according to which any placing of flowers on the graves of Albanian children is punishable by beating and imprisonment.
This is because his client, Sandulovic, was arrested and claimed that he was beaten by the Serbian secret service for this very reason. In the arrest warrant against him, it was said that he had incited national, racial and religious hatred, mentioning the occasion when he had paid homage to the Jashar cemetery.
