Asylum seekers are decreasing, about 5 thousand Albanians applied in the first

The number of requests for asylum during the first six months of this year has decreased by about 20%, compared to the same period a year ago, according to data from the "European Union Asylum Agency" (EUAA). This trend has been observed from month to month referring to official figures from previous publications.

As we pointed out earlier, this downward trajectory of the number of requests may be a consequence of new routes of illegal crossing, such as the case of the United Kingdom. However, according to official data, the three main destinations where Albanians have submitted requests for protection in the first six months of the year are France, Germany and Italy.

During the January-June period, 4,779 Albanians have applied for asylum in the countries of the European Union, out of 5,980 requests during the first half of last year, i.e. 2022. These applications referring to this period are divided into 3,602 requests for the first time and 1,177 requests repetitive.

Compared to the countries of the region, we see that, although with a decrease, during six months we have not lost the first place, recording the highest figure. North Macedonia ranks after Albania with 3,603 applications and Serbia with 2,570 applications. Kosovo for the January-June period registered 1,728 applications, while the countries with the lowest number of applications are Bosnia Herzegovina and Montenegro with 851 and 179 applications.

The data show that since the beginning of the year, that is, the month of January, all the countries of the region have registered a decrease in the number of applications. Even for the countries of the region, the main destinations where the highest requests are presented are France and Germany.

Among other things, referring to the publication, Albania has a very low recognition rate, with only 8%. So, only 8% of requests from Albanians during the first six months of the year received positive responses. However, referring to the data, of all the countries in the region, Albania has the highest acceptance rate./ ScanTv
