Shkruar nga PamfletiThe UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated that more than 300,000 people have been affected by last night's earthquake in Morocco.
The organization said it is "closely monitoring the situation" and a team is sending support to its partners in Morocco.
" Government authorities are leading response efforts, including search and rescue and medical support, including the Moroccan Red Crescent ," the UN statement said.
Even initial reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) speak of more than 300,000 civilians in Marrakesh and its surroundings as affected by the earthquake.
Many families are still trapped under piles of debris and hospitals in the city have received an influx of injured people, OCHA added.
The United Nations is in "continuous communication" with local authorities and consultations are continuing to identify areas where the UN and its partners can provide support in the "coming hours and days ," the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Moroccan government has declared 3 days of mourning in honor of the victims caused by the devastating earthquake.
