NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and President Donald Trump exchanged jokes at the Alliance summit in The Hague. The banter began when Trump compared Israel and Iran to two children fighting in a schoolyard.
"Then dad sometimes has to use harsh language," Rutte continued, joking, giving the role of parent to President Trump.
"You have to use strong language," Trump responded, adding "everyone was saying, 'well, you have to use a certain word.'"
The US president may have been referring to a comment he made the day before as he was leaving the White House, shortly after the two sides agreed to a Qatar-brokered ceasefire.
"We have two countries that have been fighting so hard and for so long that they don't know what they're doing," Trump said of Israel and Iran while heading to the NATO summit in the Netherlands.
