Iran's Foreign Minister called the move a "strategic mistake"
The decision by European Union member states to list Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization has been criticized by Iranian authorities.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called this step a "strategic mistake," stating that some countries are trying to avoid escalating the conflict in the region, while, according to him, European countries are contributing to tensions.
In response, the Iranian armed forces described the decision of the 27 EU countries as irresponsible and politically motivated, linking it to the influence of the United States and Israel.
Earlier, the European Union's Council of Foreign Ministers reached a political agreement to include the IRGC on the union's list of terrorist organizations, marking a significant change in the approach towards Iran.
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated that the decision places the Revolutionary Guard in the same category as organizations such as ISIS, Hamas, Hezbollah and Al-Qaeda, citing the suppression of protests in Iran as one of the main reasons.
Asked about the possibility of the US supporting military action against Iran, Kallas said the region does not need a new conflict.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, also stressed that the Iranian authorities bear responsibility for the use of violence against protesters.
With this decision, the European Union aligns its position with that of countries such as the United States, Canada and Australia.
