The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, has today given an inspiring message to the Ukrainian people from the Security Council room.
During his speech, Blinken said that the UN will never allow the fate of a people to be written by another country, referring to Russia.
"Two weeks ago, in a Ukrainian town two hours from Kiev, Russian forces occupied it, arresting and torturing the residents. The soldiers used them as shields for 28 hours until the Ukrainian forces freed them. When they appealed to their captors that the people were sick, they said let them die. From the comfortable distance of this hall, it is easy to talk about Ukraine, but this happened only in one neighborhood, in one town.
This is what Ukrainian families are experiencing every day, what they have been experiencing for 571 days of occupation, as long as Russia continues this war. A war that Putin seeks to bring back 'Greater Russia'. For a year and a half, it has destroyed the principles of the United Nations and vetoed more than one resolution of the United Nations. The very invasion of Russia violates the pillar and sovereignty of a country. Russia is using hunger as a weapon. Transport can be reduced by 2m2 tons, which is 5.5 billion slices of bread in the world.
The hungrier the world, the more Russia benefits. Iranian drones to attack Ukraine. Russia, in fact, held a meeting with Kim Jong Un, who expressed that he would have full and unconditional support for Russia's war and aggression. If it continues with violence, the world will abandon its principles and Ukraine will stop defending itself. We don't give up either. We will rise. We will not stand idly by when the rules we have all made are broken. I opened it by sharing with you the horrors in Hitni, but that day I saw volunteers trying to rebuild the country. I saw a nation rebuilding itself and taking control of its own destiny. We defend this when we stand up for the international order, to write their future. The Ukrainian people and not only have the right to write their future, we will not allow others to write it."said Blinken.
