Many people in Gaza face great obstacles just to meet their basic daily needs, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, condemning the "dire" situation in the besieged and blockaded Gaza Strip.
"The situation for men, women and children in Gaza remains dire. Many Palestinians have been killed, especially children. "Many people remain extremely challenged in terms of their access to food, water, medicine, the essentials of life," Blinken said on "X" today in the middle of his current tour of the Middle East.
Regarding his tour, Blinken said in a statement that he came to discuss the situation in Gaza with regional partners, including Turkey.
"These are not necessarily easy conversations. There are different perspectives, different needs, different demands. But it is vital that we engage in this diplomacy now, both for the sake of the future for Gaza itself and beyond, and for the sake of the future for Israelis and Palestinians and for the region as a whole ," he added.
Saying that this is his fourth visit to the region since October 7, when the Gaza conflict began, he stressed that they have been focused on preventing the spread of the conflict since day one.
Stressing that they will discuss with their partners during his visit what can be done to prevent the spread of the conflict, Blinken said they will address the protection of civilians, the delivery of more humanitarian aid and the release of remaining prisoners from the surprise attack by Hamas on October 7.
"To rebuild, to have security, to have government led by the Palestinians"
Emphasizing their focus on steps towards a sustainable, peaceful and secure future for all in the region.
"That starts with the work that will be needed in Gaza itself to rebuild, to have security, to have Palestinian-led governance," Blinken said.
Blinken has embarked on a regional tour starting with Turkey and then continuing to Greece, Jordan, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
His focus on the bleak humanitarian situation in Gaza appears to underline what some analysts see as a growing rift between traditional allies the US and Israel, with Washington urging Tel Aviv to withdraw its operation in Gaza to cut costs. heavy human toll of about 23,000 lives extinguished so far.
