"I was writing goodbye messages", the shocking testimony of the young

Passenger Stephanie King was returning to her home in California after a visit to Portland, Oregon, when she heard a loud wind noise on her Alaska Airlines flight on Friday.

She testified to CNN that she was seated in row 12 of Flight 1282, but a few rows back, part of the Boeing 737 Max 9 had exploded mid-flight.

"I just knew something bad had happened. I wasn't sure what was going on and I felt very scared," she told CNN in a phone call.

King said flight attendants made announcements, but because the plane was open, it was too loud for her to hear what was being said. Some passengers closer to the plane where the incident occurred were moved to empty seats, King told CNN.

"One of the ladies was screaming and crying. She was inconsolable. She kept saying 'My son! My son! His shirt was torn! It was absolutely surreal," she said.

Fearing for her safety, King told CNN she pulled out her cell phone to record videos and compose goodbye text messages to her loved ones.

"Because I was flying alone, I texted my boyfriend and my mother to tell them that something was going on, that I was scared and that I love them," she said.

Thankfully, the plane landed safely less than 10 minutes after the incident.

“That was more than enough time to relax. I heard people's cellphones, shoes and shirts thrown out the window. Anything could have happened," she added.

Immediately after the emergency landing, firefighters boarded the plane to see if there were any injuries. Once the area was cleared, the descent process began, King told CNN.

"It was really quiet then. Everyone was in shock. We were all still so confused. Everyone was super cool. It was scary, actually, how calm and peaceful everyone was just because it was so unreal," she told CNN.

No serious injuries were reported among the flight's 171 passengers and six crew members, and one person was taken to hospital.

After the Federal Aviation Administration ordered all Boeing 737 Max 9 planes grounded pending careful inspection, Alaska Airlines said Saturday that 18 of its fleet of 65 Max 9 planes are ready to return to service.
