Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sparked a backlash after breaking royal protocol by revealing in his memoir that Queen Elizabeth II had bone cancer before her death.
The book, which will be released on October 10, is said to contain excerpts of the Queen's final days at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
Johnson officially stepped down just two days before Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, and in the years since, there has been intense speculation about how she died.
"I have known for a year or more that she had some form of bone cancer and her doctors were concerned that at any moment she might go into a rapid decline," reads an excerpt.
Johnson's testimony is the first public indication by a former senior government official of what may have been the cause of the Queen's death. Meanwhile, her death certificate lists the word "old age" as the cause.
