The head of the EU's foreign policy, Josep Borrell, described Hezbollah as a "puppet" of Iran. Speaking at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, he said that history has shown that a military solution does not work when there is a deep-rooted problem in a region like the Middle East.
Borrell said that Lebanon is a very unstable country, as according to him there is another state within the state, which is Hezbollah. He describes the latter as a puppet of Iran.
Borrell noted that "Hezbollah has a political wing, it has members in the Lebanese government, members who are parliamentarians, but it also has a military wing, which we classify as a terrorist organization."
"Without a strong compromise, without political reforms, within the Lebanese society led by the Lebanese people and actors, without all this, nothing can happen. No one can replace them and do for them what needs to be done," said Borrell.
The head of the EU's foreign policy also said that the Commission has promised to provide 1 billion euros for the reconstruction of Lebanon, but according to him, a specific deadline should be given when there are such commitments.
