The British Ambassador Neil Holland has again appealed to the official Belgrade for the immediate release of three Kosovo policemen, who were kidnapped on June 14 by Serbian special forces inside the territory of the Republic of Kosovo.
Holland says that Kosovo and Serbia should immediately reduce the tensions between them.
"Great Britain is very aware of the recent increase in tensions between Serbia and Kosovo. The United Kingdom calls for the immediate release of the three Kosovo police officers detained on June 14. The governments of Serbia and Kosovo must exercise maximum restraint, avoid unilateral actions and take steps towards calming tensions," said Holland.
Further, the ambassador added that Great Britain has repeated calls to the government of Kosovo to ensure that elected mayors of municipalities perform their duties from alternative locations and that Special Police units are withdrawn from the vicinity of municipal buildings.
Also, Holland stated that Great Britain demands that new elections should be announced as soon as possible in which they encourage Kosovo Serbs to participate.
"We expect Kosovo and Serbia to re-engage in a constructive manner in the dialogue facilitated by the EU and in particular to start work without further delay for the establishment of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority", concluded the British ambassador, Neil Holland .
