The US Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, expects that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, will agree today to the EU's three-point plan to calm the situation in the north. Hovenier says that this is the right way to stop tensions.
"It is difficult to say what we expect, our hope is to find a way forward. The EU has been clear and the US has supported the view of the three-point plan to achieve de-escalation in the north, to go to early elections with the participation of the Serbs and to continue with the full implementation by both parties of the agreements that have been achieved. Our hope is that this is how we get out of this situation", said the ambassador after the meeting with President Vjosa Osmani.
Hovenier went on to say that the short-term solution for normalizing the situation is the EU's three-point plan. According to him, all Western allies have supported the three-point plan and he expects Albin Kurti to accept it and act appropriately.
"He is the democratically elected Prime Minister of the country and has responsibility in that direction. The USA, the EU, the United Kingdom and our NATO allies and many others have expressed to Kurt our expectations of how he will manage the situation in the north. As I mentioned, we are all supporting the EU's three-point plan and our hope is that he will accept this and act appropriately", declared Hovenier for RTV21.
Kurti and Vucic are expected to meet this afternoon in Brussels.
