Britain sanctions Israeli groups and individuals for violence in the West Bank

Britain imposed sanctions on two "extremist" groups and four individuals in Israel on Friday, which it blames for violence in the occupied West Bank.

This is the latest package of British measures against Israeli settlers.

Britain's Foreign Office said the Hilltop Youth and Lehava groups have supported, incited and promoted violence against Palestinian communities in the West Bank.

The four sanctioned individuals are responsible for human rights violations against these communities, according to the British Ministry.

Among them are Noam Federman, who has trained settler groups to commit violence, and Elisha Yered, who has justified the killing of Palestinians for religious reasons.

Violence in the West Bank has been escalating even before Israel launched its war on the Gaza Strip, which was sparked by an attack in southern Israel on October 7 by Hamas - the group designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union. .

But violence has escalated since then, due to increased Israeli army attacks, settler violence and Palestinian street attacks.

British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said extremist settlers are undermining security and stability, and are a threat to hopes for peace.

"The Israeli authorities must hold them accountable. The UK will not hesitate to take further action, if necessary, including imposing additional sanctions," he added.

Those sanctioned face financial and travel restrictions. In February, Britain imposed sanctions against four Israeli citizens./ REL
